Homestead Ledger · last updated 7 September 2026
The short version. Homestead Ledger stores the farm
records you type in, and the login you use to reach them. Nothing is sold, nothing is
shared with advertisers, and there is no analytics or tracking of any kind in the app.
What is stored
- Your records — egg counts, sales, customer names you choose to
enter, feed costs, flock and animal details, health notes and chores.
- Your account — display name, username, and one-way hashes of your
password and PIN. Neither the password nor the PIN is ever stored in a readable form
and neither can be recovered, only reset.
- Your devices — a random token per signed-in device, stored hashed,
plus the browser or device description it reported, so you can see and sign out of
your own devices.
- Failed sign-in attempts — the IP address and a counter, kept only to
slow down password guessing. These are discarded once you sign in successfully.
What is not done
- No advertising, ad identifiers, or ad networks.
- No analytics, tracking pixels, or behavioural profiling.
- No selling or renting of data to anyone, for any purpose.
- No location collection. The app does not request location access.
- No access to your contacts, photos, microphone or camera.
Notifications
If you turn on the daily chore reminder, the app schedules that notification
on your own device. The reminder text is generated locally from your own chore
list. No notification service or third party is involved and no push token leaves
your phone.
Where it lives
Data is held on a private server operated by Cumberland Servers in New York, United
States, reachable only over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Databases are not exposed to
the internet. Encrypted backups are retained for 30 days and then deleted.
Third parties
The app has no third-party SDKs. Two optional resources are loaded from public
content networks when you have an internet connection:
- Google Fonts — typefaces. Your IP address is visible to Google
when a font is fetched. If the fetch fails, the app falls back to your device's
own fonts and works normally.
- cdnjs — the spreadsheet library used only when you tap Export.
If unavailable, export falls back to CSV.
Neither receives your farm data, your account details, or anything you have typed.
Your data is yours
- Export — the Egg log tab exports your records to a spreadsheet at
any time, without asking anyone's permission.
- Deletion — ask and your account and every record attached to it is
deleted, including from backups as they age out within 30 days.
Children
Homestead Ledger is a tool for running a smallholding. It is not directed at children
and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the date at the top
changes and the change is described here.
